There are instances in the scriptures when the Lord Himself changes the natural order, and goes against all scientific principles to let the people know through these signs that He indeed is God; one of the ways He accomplishes this is to darken the sun and take away the day, both for short and extended periods of time, and in both a figurative and literal sense.
