Highly esteemed things in scripture are usually likened to valuable stones like rubies or precious metals like gold and silver, but the Lord also calls His saints precious; everything about those who have been saved by Christ Jesus is precious, even their death, but outsiders are of very low regard to Him.
Deuteronomy 33:13-16, 2 Kings 1:13-15 and 1 Peter 2:7-8.
