The people of ancient Israel defiled the first covenant which the Lord established because of their great "harlotry" of serving other gods, (among other sins which required spiritual death), sins which no animal sacrifice could reconcile; however, God in His timeless providence provided atonement for His people, in His abundant grace, through His Son Jesus Christ, the once and for all sacrifice for all of our sins.
