Genesis Thirty-Seven - Tearing Clothes
"Then they sent the tunic of many colors, and they brought it to their father and said, 'We have found this. Do you know whether it is your son’s tunic or not?' And he recognized it and said, 'It is my son’s tunic. A wild beast has devoured him. Without doubt Joseph is torn to pieces.' Then Jacob tore his clothes, put sackcloth on his waist, and mourned for his son many days," Genesis 37:32-34, NKJV. #TearingClothes
The word 'tear' or its past tense 'tore' is translated from the archaic word 'rent', which means to rip apart, break into pieces or to rend; it is often used in the scriptures when speaking of people who become so emotionally disturbed, upset or sad that they 'tear' their clothes as an outward display of their inner turmoil.
Joshua 7:5-6, 2 Kings 18:35-37 and Mark 14:62-65.
