First Chronicles Ten - Mourning Fast

"And when all Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul, all the valiant men arose and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons; and they brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days," 1 Chronicles 10:11-12, NKJV. #MourningFast
While fasting, or abstaining from food and praying is a common practice among believers that is performed in order to purify oneself and gain a higher spiritual enlightenment, it was also a ritual associated with mourning; after the death of a family member, prophet or king, loved ones often fasted in the scriptures for one, and sometimes, up to several days.
