Worms in the scriptures represent an everlasting form of torture in hell, (and sometimes while still on earth), for those sentenced to eternal damnation because they weren't saved by the Lord Jesus Christ; unlike the animals that die in this life, the worms in hell are said to torment forever.
Job 24:19-20, Isaiah 51:7-8 and Acts 12:22-23.
